A DIFFERENT WAY OF LOOKING AT AUTISM

Functional Medicine looks beyond a diagnosis to understand what is happening within the individual child.

At Brain Kids, I investigate the interconnected systems that can influence development including nutrition, gut health, immune function, metabolism, environmental factors and the developing brain.

I combine this with developmental neurology and neuroimmunology to build a more complete picture of your child and identify where support may be needed.

The biology behind every child is different.

If your child has previously had functional testing through another practitioner, please check with me before your appointment to confirm whether I am able to review and interpret those results. Due to the wide range and complexity of functional tests available in Australia and internationally, I may not be able to provide interpretation for all tests or laboratory reports.

Specialised functional testing is available as part of the clinical care at Brain Kids and is ordered when clinically appropriate following assessment.

Brain Kids does not provide standalone test ordering for individuals who are not current patients, or on behalf of other practitioners.

FUNCTIONAL TESTING

Organic Acids Test (OAT)

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) measures more than 75 biochemical markers, providing valuable insight into metabolic function, nutrient needs and biochemical imbalances. Testing is performed using a first-morning urine sample.

Gut Zoomer

A comprehensive assessment of the gut microbiome, examining pathogenic, commensal and opportunistic bacteria, as well as fungi, viruses and parasites. It also assesses key markers of digestive and immune function. Testing is performed using stool and urine samples.

Neural Zoomer

The Neural Zoomer assesses immune reactivity associated with the brain and nervous system, measuring antibodies related to neural structures, neuroinflammatory processes and blood–brain barrier function. Testing requires a blood sample.

Testing Costs

Specialised functional testing ranges from $795–$1,395 per test, including comprehensive clinical analysis and interpretation. Testing is individually selected and prioritised according to clinical need and budget. Where multiple tests are recommended, costs may exceed $2,000.
